CREATING THE VISION

 

I am an artist at heart, continuously striving to reach new heights. This is evident, as I began enhancing my artistry at the age of fourteen by enrolling in art classes at the Alberta College of Art and Design, and continued my studies in the arts throughout high school. My dream was always to attend a post-secondary art school, and that dream was realized when I was accepted into the Bachelor of Fine Arts Program at the Alberta College of Art and Design. Majoring in Photography with a Minor in Painting, I was eager to further my education throughout the arts. However, throughout my first semester, I realized that ACAD was not the direction I was seeking at that point in my life.

 

I continued my journey through travel, and as a result, I explored another artistic endeavor within the fields of makeup and hair styling, working closely with a clientele comprising of models and actors. This field proved to be extremely gratifying, as I was continuously expanding my creativity through a variety of self-taught techniques. I began to observe the similarities between applying makeup and painting, with the only difference being the canvas, and also that styling hair was comparable to sculpting using a different medium. After a great deal of traveling and collaborating with some very interesting people, I decided it was time to set some roots back in Calgary, and seek out a new career.

 

I made the decision to pursue architecture at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology as it has always been a passion of mine. Throughout my time at SAIT, I have held up and graduated with a strong 4.0 GPA, placed second in the Calgary Home Builders Association home design competition, as well as fourth place in the First Nations home design competition. The last semester's main group project was awarded "Best in Presentation". I have since been fortunate enough in fulfilling my dream and have been enjoying the creative as well as the technical aspect of my profession. I am eager to continue my career in my chosen field as an Architectural Technologist. My desire to learn and gain experience is a life long journey.
